A passionate educator, researcher, advocate, and mother with over 20 years of experience in community engagement, maternal and infant health, and resource development. She is the Founder and Executive Director of UnKIDitional Love Recreation Center, Inc., a Baltimore-based nonprofit that provides fun, educational, and inclusive programming for special needs youth and their caregivers. The organization also teaches advocacy skills to help youth increase their independence, build confidence, and actively engage in their communities.
A proud graduate of Morgan State University with a bachelor’s degree in Family & Consumer Science, Keyona has led local and national advocacy efforts for special needs families while contributing significantly to the cooperative movement. She is a co-founder of the National Association of Black Cooperators (NABC) and a bold defender of Black liberation and sovereignty. Her mission is rooted in the belief that youth with disabilities deserve to thrive in spaces that are not only inclusive but created and sustained by them.
Keyona’s professional experience includes serving as a doula and maternal health advocate, as well as working in research at the Johns Hopkins School of Nursing, where she facilitated focus groups, conducted interviews, and led qualitative data analysis.
She is currently pursuing a Master of Legal Studies (M.L.S.) to deepen her understanding of contracts and the legal implications affecting individuals with disabilities. Her areas of interest include medical advocacy, IEP navigation, nonprofit development, and international consulting. Through UnKIDitional Love Recreation Center, Inc., Keyona continues to offer social development and life skills programming for high-functioning special needs teens, championing their right to build and control the systems meant to support them—rather than fight for access.
